The Supporting Addiction Free Environments (SAFE) is made up of individuals and organizations that want to see the reduction of incidence and prevalence of substance use among adults and adolescents in Lake County, Indiana. This coalition brings together all sectors of the community to build a safe, happy, and healthy environment for its residents. Members include professionals from the prevention/education, treatment/intervention, and law enforcement/justice fields. These members work together towards one goal: substance free environments for the Lake County residents. Please consider becoming involved in the SAFE to join in the effort to combat drug and alcohol abuse in our county. Any Lake County resident or organization is welcome to join. The coalition allows for community members and agencies opportunities for networking, partnership and referral services, as well as training and grant funding opportunities.
• Prevention Committee - deterring individuals from the use or abuse of alcohol and drugs through education and awareness programs, activities, services and materials
• Treatment Committee - work to identify gaps in program and service areas for persons in need of recovery from alcohol and other drugs
• Law Enforcement Committee – focuses on the legal consequences of substance use regarding enforcement, prosecution, probation, court and correctional services

The Supporting Addiction Free Environments has a 6-member board. This board consists of a chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, and the 3 chairpersons of the committees: law enforcement, prevention, and treatment. The executive board is responsible for jointly overseeing the activities of the Lake County Substance Abuse Council. The individuals on the board are listed below:
