The Making Student Successful Initiative (MSSI) is an evidence-based program model that partners with Merrillville Community School Corporation and the School City of Hammond’s Hammond High to provide social services to children, parents, caregivers, teachers, and the community to prevent substance abuse, promote healthy behaviors, and maximize student success. The initiative incorporates 3 school based, student centered programs: Coping And Support Training, Ripple Effect, and Signs of Suicide. There is also a parent and community component which consists of Talk. They Hear You, an underage drinking prevention campaign empowering parents and caregivers to talk with their children early about alcohol, and hosting community level conversations.
